Frequently Asked Questions

What programs do I need to run TGIS?

TGIS is a designed enhancement of MapInfo Professional, a software program currently being used nationwide as an organizational planning tool. TGIS, therefore, requires the installation of MapInfo for its mapping environment and database engine. However, MapInfo is not required to run locally. Site licenses can be purchased to allow it to run from a network server. By the same token, TGIS can run locally or from a network server.

What requirements must my system meet before I can install and run TGIS?

The minimum system requirements for TGIS is a 166 MHz Pentium processor (or equivalent), 16MB RAM or higher (32MB recommended), Microsoft Windows 95/98/2000/NT operating system, MapInfo Professional 4.5 or higher.

All data for TGIS must be placed on a network server for universal access. TGIS is then configured to connect to whichever network drive is specified.

What is included in the TGIS software package?

The TGIS software package includes one installation CD plus an Administrator's CD containing blank database structures, password access programs and other administrative features. TGIS also comes with AutoView Professional 15.1 for viewing and linking up to 200 different file formats to map graphics, including CAD drawings, Visio files and digital photos. In addition to these program CDs, the TGIS package comes with a user's manual and an administrative pamphlet.

Can I link my current databases to TGIS instead of recreating them?

Yes. One of the most valuable advantages to starting up TGIS as your telecom management tool is that you don't have to recreate your current databases or change the current programs you use to store your data. TGIS will either import your current data into its maps to use directly, or it can link to your current data source. The Custom Programming Staff at J&L Technologies will work closely with your sample data to find the best, most efficient way to represent your records in geographic format.

Can I use custom map symbols to represent my information or do I have to use standard MapInfo symbols?

TGIS has the ability to accept any custom symbols for graphic representation. If your current symbols are not in the standard MapInfo symbol library, we will customize that library to suit your needs.

Can I print or plot out maps and/or presentations? Can I e-mail them?

TGIS has a layout feature which allows you to transfer maps to a layout window where you can print or plot them for presentations. TGIS also has an e-mail option that will send the map window or layout window to an e-mail recipient with a click of a mouse button.

How much does TGIS cost?

TGIS is initially priced out by individual seat and is subsequently discounted by quantity and/or site license. There are several different packages, depending on your organizational needs. To schedule a consultation with a TGIS sales representative, please send an e-mail.
